Today was my birthday party! My actual birthday was last Tuesday, but I still wasn't feeling very hot, so we decided to postpone it until today in hopes of giving me more of a chance to recover. We think we've figured out the cause of the headaches (a new medication I was on that had side effects no one bothered to tell me about) and I've stopped taking it and it seems to have helped. But now I'm exhausted.

Anyway, today was party day. Adam and Amalie came over and there was spaghetti and pumpkin cheescake (seperately, not a spaghetti and pumpkin cheesecake). They were both delicious. I got phat loots - a gorgeous, huge jewelry box, lots of books I wanted, thingimies for my embroidery floss and a blinged out new journal with blinged out pens. Adam and Ama gave me Merlin Series 1 and Avatar on DVD. Plus bubbles and the most inadvertently hilarious card I have ever seen.

I hadn't seen Avatar yet (my eyes don't do 3d and no one would go with me to the 2D). We watched that tonight. Thoughts under the cut.

PBS is doing its summer drive, so Mum and I caught Masterpiece Classic tonight after Adam and Ama left, which was David Copperfield with wee Daniel Radcliffe in it. Part one is excellent and I'm looking forward to part two next week.

Great day, great gifts and great food. Hope that bodes well for my 24th year.

On Christmas Eve, formerly, we did French-Canadian Christmas. Which is basically réveillon without the church going part. We get together and eat tourtière, sometimes with a bûche de Noël for dessert. Our bûches aren't so sophisticated - we make ours out of chocolate wafer cookies sandwiched in a big long line with whipped cream between them. Then you cover it with whipped cream and put it in the fridge and the wafers get all soft and cake-like. Then you cut it at an angle and it looks like stripes. When we were little, we were allowed to open one present on Christmas Eve, usually something relevent to activities (one year I got a dress to wear to the party we were going to, another year I got Pictionary to play after dinner). Now that we're older, we are more calm about it and can contain ourselves until Christmas morning.

The past few years, though, since Adam and Amalie usually go to visit her family on Christmas day, we've been having our English Canadian Christmas on Christmas Eve and our French-Canadian Christmas on Christmas day.

So tonight, Adam, Ama and possible her brother George are coming for English dinner. Then tomorrow Adam and Ama will come in the morning for stockings and presents and then head out to visit Ama's family in the Torontoish area.

My brother identified the problem with my computer as being motherboard related and my dad went to buy me a new one today, only to find that my computer is so old, it's obsolete. They don't make parts for it anymore. So, I'm getting a new computer. Which is, in the long run, awesome and probably much needed. He's going to get it tomorrow.

A moment of silence for Shelby, the computer which kept me sane during all those years I was sick and house-ridden. I love you.

In other news, it's Canadian Thanksgiving on Monday. There will be sugar-free pun'kin pie. And dinner rolls. Also, I'm going to a baby shower for my friend tomorrow, which will be fun. I've never been to a baby shower before. And finally, I had my second ASL class last night and I am enjoying it supermuch. Also, Zip sent me Spaced, so Ama and I watched Series 1 today. There will be iconage. When the new computer arrives.

So, all in all, things aren't that bad. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Poor Shilling. I forgot to take him for a walk yesterday, and I was going to take him for a walk a few minutes ago. He's so cute when you put his leash on:

"Oh,arewegoingforawalk?Canwegonow?Doyouneedhelpgettingready?MaybeIcouldgoaheadofyouandyoucouldcatchup?OrIcouldjustgoandtakemyself,youdon'tneedtocomeatall!"

So, I put the leash on and go to find some walking shoes. In the time it takes me to go down the hall and back, it starts to rain. I think, 'well, it's not that bad, I could just take an umb-' and it starts to pour.

I apologize to Shill and take his leash off. He's like:

"Oh,areyoutakingmyleashoff?Dadusuallykeepsiton,butIguessthat'sokay!Canwegonow?Doyouneedhelpgettingready?MaybeIcouldgoaheadofyouandyoucouldcatchup?OrIcouldjustgoandtakemyself,youdon'tneedtocomeatall!"

I take my shoes off and he's still dancing around. I go the basement and he's all:

"Oh,areyougoingtothebasement?Isthereanalternateexitdownthere?Canwegonow?Doyouneedhelpgettingready?MaybeIcouldgoaheadofyouandyoucouldcatchup?OrIcouldjustgoandtakemyself,youdon'tneedtocomeatall!"

So, now I'm at the computer, typing this tale and Shilling has come downstairs and trotted up to me.

"This is a weird place for a walk, why are you sitting down, can we go now? No? We aren't going are we?"

Poor Shilling.

Just woke up from a WOW/Jessica's Cupcake Cafe themed dream/nightmare in which I was being chased by dragons and forced to make them cupcakes while members of my group were picked off one by one. I managed to survive to the end and the dragons left us a nice photo album to commemorate our time/forced enslavement together.

One of my questiony posts, requiring information from the Yanks, regarding: hospital/Health Care visits and, uh, macaroni and cheese. I never said they were intelligent questions...
